JC Days (Part 1)
Mood: Nostalgic
Today, I remember the days in JC. A place where you are free as a bird yet feel like you are locked in a cage. A place where your learning is regimented but yet there is so much choices on what to study.
Catholic Junior College was my home for less than 20 months. I entered in March 2002 and left in November 2004. Not a long time to be studying somewhere. As the saying goes, everywhere you go, a mark is made upon the paper which is your life. CJC was a place where I learnt how to study smart, to chill when under academic stress and to play hard.
Lets start from my class T17. A rojak class of talents and personalities. There are the nerds, the social animals, the leaders and the persons-non-grata. There were those who were good at all their studies and there were those who couldnt study. Yet, the class was supposed to be one of the better classes in CJC. People like Airine, Soon Aik and Beverly would be busy balancing work with CCA. People like Ateet and Gordon would be entertaining the class with funny putdowns and general act-cool-though-I-am-not actions. Then there is the MUD gang: Marcus, Clarence and myself. The guys who spend their time playing computers games and stuff. I was somewhat in the middle of everything expected of am all-rounder. CCA leader, above-average grades and sports-inclined. There was always someone better than me in my class but yet seemed to be just missing something to be the best. The fragmentation of my class was due the the fact that we never wanted to be in CJC in the first place. All of us wanted to be in NJC, ACJC, RJC or SAJC but we missed. Differing interests and petty school rivalry affected our intra-class bonds. Clarence was one of th few who could reach across the school 'gap' and befriend much of the class. Its not to say all my close classmate friends are from SJI, though most are. The nice 'other' school guys were Peng Yam, Hsien Han and Kai Shing. There were more but I guess 20 months is a short time to squeeze in friendship, studies and other activities. I would be presumptous to break the class into the little cliques because some of the classmates could float from 1 clique to another. As I write this blog, I wonder how all of them are doing and whether they still considered each other as friends. It has been almost 3 years since we last were in the same classroom, I hope they are well.
More on my JC Days in the days to come.

Correction: I realised that a lot of people are dependant on the responsible to help them clear their crap. People who are willing to help usually are abused!

DEPENDENCE
Mood: Mildly Irritated
Music: Nil
After waking up suddenly in the middle of the night due to a strange tiredness strike, I came down to my computer to check my email. After chatting with Yixin, Freda and a few friends as well as reviewing the past few weeks events. I realised that lots of people have been dependant on me to clear their shit. Most of them in the army. Mainly because I am a workhorse, I didnt mind. In hindsight, I should have pushed more work away. I dunno why I worked so hard for. Its not like I would get more pay. I dont work per hour at that time. If i did, I wont mind working more.
I find its a bad a habit to ask others to bail you out everytime you hit into a problem you cant solve. I am guility of such behaviour but now after 2 years in the army, I learnt a few more trick.
Ciao!

ORD and Post-ORD
Mood: Nostalgic
Music: *silence*
I remember a time when a 18 year-old young man stepped on to the island of Pulau Tekong as required by the law of his country. He was full of hope and was very eager to succeed. He met many new friends on the island and learnt a lot. It was sad that the fire which spurred this young man to succeed died the moment he stepped off the island. You could say he lost his way. That young man, as you could have guessed, was me. At 21, I felt that I have really changed. I have become less tolerant of others, more scheming and more mature. I went through times which was not necessary but i still experienced them. Along the way, I picked up knowledge and met people would moulded who i am today.
There was Dominique. The sweet, mature girl that was to achieve great things in her term in CJC. Her many talents made her stand out of the crowd. She was a swimmer, guitarist and good student. Alas, I lost contact with her. From what I have deduced from my few chats with her on MSN, JC was a turbulent time for her. Well, hopefully she will be much more happy now then before.
Chris Neo, the mature individual. He was from my section in Specialist training. Nice guy who loves soccer. Sometimes his temper gets the best of him but that doesnt chnge the fact that he is a great friend. One who will be there for you. Being older than most, he was like a elder brother to us.
Nicholas Yap, the buddy. Actually, I didnt meet him in army, I knew him since primary school. A great guy. Always there to help me when I needed help. He is a great guy though due to our hectic schedules, we have not had a chance to meet after Specialist training.
Darryl Ng, the guy on the other side of the tracks. This guy is really nice but he has a side which was created from his time in school. He is a brother-in-arms and problem solver and a magician. he can do miracles and can sweet talk his way outta trouble. Great guy to be friends with.
There are many more but these have moulded my life in ways I would not have changed.
ORD has come and gone. What is left is memories and scars. Though the young man has grown up into a soldier and a wiser man, the child in him still lurks. From the moment, the young man stepped onto Tekong, till the moment he takes his final leave on ORD, he is always growing up in many ways not possible in the civilian world.
Cheers to all those who knew me in the SAF!

Half Time and it seems Liverpool are out of the Champions League. They need 3 goals to win and they havent found the net recently. Unless Crouch can stop screwing up the chances with the help of Morientes!
Arsenal and Real Madrid are playing a great match. Very exciting, the passion to win is there. Unlike Barce and Chelsea who both could not be bothered to go for the win.
Milan seem to be destined for the last 8. They lead 2-1 at Giusuppe Mezza. Things are unlikely to change.
Lyon will win it if they dun screw up

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PART1
Mood: Normal
Music: Yi Qian Nian Yi Hou By Lin Jun Jie
This mornings matches were at best predictable at worst boring. Barcelona drew, Juve won and Villareal drew. The good thing was that Juve won thanks to Emerson and Trezeguet. Micoud must have scared Capello a bit.
Anyway, I found he Barce-Chelsea match was not as entertaining as the first leg. Ronaldinho did well to score against Cech but Barce didnt look like they could be bothered to play properly. They didnt have the fire to win. They were interested only in not losing. They came and haunt them at the last minute when Lampard scored a penalty. Such behaviour is unsporting and stopps to Mourinho's level. People dun watch soccer to see who wins, the want to see chance after chance after chance. Fine, Ronaldinho was very entertaining but rest of the team was interested in preventing a goal and not creating one.
Juventus did well to beat Weirder Bremon. They were losing for the first half and losing on aggregate for more than 90 minutes of play time. Kudos to Emerson and the rest of the players for not giving up and sending the "Old Lady' to the last 8.
The last match was terpid not so much because it ended 1-1 but because neither team really tried to score. Rangers took the lead but Villareal scored one back.
3 of the 8 teams i predicted to go through have gone through! Well, now for the next 5.
Cheers!

I just realised how much I like Middlesborough. I mean, I've always liked them. When they had Branco, Juninho, Emerson and Ravenelli, they were great. Ironically, the first time I saw them play was against Chelsea. Well, Ravenelli is gone so is most of the team I liked. Now they have a new player, ex-Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink! Great player, one of the reasons I supported Chelsea. Mendieta and Yakubu are great players too.
I wonder whether its weird for someone to support 2 team in the same league?
Well go Middlesbourgh!

Well go Middlesbourgh!
Wont bother to put a title.
After watching the Chelsea match, I realised 2 things: Arjen Robben is a very dirty player and Joe Cole is exceptional. Without King Cole, Chelsea would be in some trouble now. Its thanks to his goal that Chelsea won. At least at the time I am blogging. I doubt Chelsea can squander a 2 goal lead.
Robben is an idiot for committing such a rash tackle. Mourinho has Joe Cole to thank that he got away from the Hawthorne with full points. Shame on Robben.
My predictions for the final eight in the Champions League: Juventus, Barcelona (my favourite 2 teams), Milan, Inter, Lyon, Villareal, Arsenal and Liverpool. Notice Chelsea is not one of them. They lack the true grit to dominate despite having the cash to create a world class or even galatical class team. They screwed up the match at Stamford Brigde against Barce. Juve have to focus on winning against Weirder Bremon. A draw just wont cut it. The rest are just blind guesses.
Chelsea have to stop being such an arrogant and dirty team. They need a quieter manager and a disciplinarian if they are to go far. Riling your opponents might work in the Premiership but doesnt seem to really work in the Champion's League. Act like Champions not losers! GO CHELSEA!!!!!! Next season's goal to win 4 trophies (FA CUP, CHARITY SHIELD, CARLING CUP AND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE) and the Premiership. Failure would only mean that despite all that money spent, Chelsea still cant cut it. Losers are forgotten, winners are remembered! Survival of the fittest!

INJURIES, SOCCER AND ORD!!!!
Mood: Rocking
Music: Nobody's Home By Avril Lavigne
Its been 6 days since my toe operation and it still is irritating me. The pain has diminished but now a irritating sensation is felt. It is really irritating because it is a cross between a itch and a pin prick. Hoping to be able to hit the pool withing the next week or so. Need to train my water fitness. I love the water! No impact, cool and no sweat. First I gotta remove the stiches on my toe and let the wound heal.
Next week, there will a a testimonial match between my fellow commanders and my men. Being a bit of a soccer nut now (thanks to my bro Chris), I want to play but my injury will not heal in time so I cant play. In other matters, Kismis and Falcon seem to be headed for another encounter. Hopefully, I will be match fit by then. Hopefully, it will be a match which will stop all the childish bickering. Kismis is a good team as is Falcon. Stop thinking the other team suck guys. I belong to both teams in a way so it is hard for me to choose sides. Something like a co-own thing. Heh! :)
I ORD in 12 days time. The thoughts running though my head are, how to get a tempy job, how to fit in some time to do social stuff and to pass my driving test so I can go places. 12 days will pass soon then I will leave Yew Tee in the realm of my memories. I will always remember the shop under the MRT station where we bought New Paper, FHM and Maxim. The nearby Mac's and the bubble tea shop will always been stops on the way back from nights off to help those not so lucky to buy their food. Well, that will be the past soon. I will start a new life in NUS and have new favourite hangouts. Hoping to make more friends and contacts.
Ciao!
