I was reading my email today and was appalled by how some of my fellow JC/uni students are growing up to be elitist or living in a whole of their own.

Its true to say that we are better than others in education which is the foundation on which this country is built on. As my friend Selene once said, being good at studies doesnt mean anything, when you go into the working world all your books/degrees/scholarships arent gonna protect you from reality like the schools do. Therefore grow up!

Having grown up in a home similar in background to some elites, I am not surprised that they think poor people/ bad students have themselves to blame. To an extent, that would be true. Unfortunately, the world/environment which our parents grew up in and ours is quite different. Their time was one which comprised of 2 worlds, the world of studies and the world of skilled work. Those who chose to study were the lucky ones as they were rewarded by the government in the form of jobs and high pay.

An adept analogy is one of having to bet one's entire fortune on 2 choices, sometimes the choice we make might not be the right one. We will only know when its too late. There is no justifying elitism, even more so if you are to serve the 'non-elites' . Our leaders cannot afford to be elite which I believe they are not, yet. Many countries have fallen into the elitist trap, USA, USSR, China, etc....

I hope my generation will buck the worrying trend that is threatening to send our fair country to oblivion. We are too small to afford to have elites. The elites are important people but they lack the humility to care for the less fortunate.
