REACTIONS

After reading the match reports of the Chelsea - Liverpool match in the Straits Times and Today newspaper, I am shocked the Mourinho thought he could win. Being a Chelsea fan, I saw The Special One try to win a match against one of the league top three by treating like a mid-table mediocre team. We seen it happend before. Middlesborough and Fulham treated Chelsea to losses and they were mid-table.

Liverpool was beaten twic by Chelsea in the league by margins of two goals or more. That might have caused Jose to think Pool was easy meat. Jose played a packed centre midfield without considering the wings. No first team winger played and they played with a 4-4-2 formation which was not their normal style. No wingers, unfamiliar formation, injured first choice keeper and playing players who normally dun figure in the first team. All danger signs which Mourinho failed to catch. Benitez saw them and took advantage. Thus Chelsea lost. Liverpool did well to beat Chelsea. yes, their striker didnt score but Crouch and Cisse are not Robbie Fowler. They did their job and Liverpool won 2-1.

What could have been changed from the starting line-up of Chelsea? First of all, Crespo should have stayed in London. Partnering him with Drogba wasted a space for someone with more contribution. Lets start from the back and move to the attack. First, given that Cech was half injured, Chelsea should have alloted more defensive cover, which they did sufficiently with Gallas, Ferriera, Terry and Del Horno. Midfield: Geremi should have been benched in favour of Joe Cole or Damien Duff. Make, Lampard and Essien would have been perfect in the centre. With Drogba playing lone, Mourinho could play a wider midfield with two out of the three wingers playing. For all my criticism of Didier Drogba, he is perhaps the better of the few strikers in Chelsea. He can score but yet he can screw up as skillfully. Mourinho started the game with two wrong players and a formation more suited for Highbury or a street soccer court. Narrow formation indicating a narrow mind.

Once more the Special One has shown that he has failed his familarisation testof the English game. Yes, the better team lost. They lost because they underestimated the opposition. The price is the FA Cup. Lets hope Mourinho can learnt the English game and with his knowledge rebuild Chelsea into a world beater. Till then, he needs to conserve his seemingly endless resources so that when the right player comes, he can bid for that player with no prob.

A list of players who should leave Chelsea: Carlton Cole, Didier Drogba, Hernan Jorge Crespo, Arjen Robben, Geremi and William Gallas. No Maniche too

Wishlist: Andy Johnson, Ashley Cole, Ronaldinho, Robinho and Mario Melchiot
